The Role of Lipid Metabolism in Aging and Longevity

Aging is characterized by a gradual decline of tissue function. But age progression can be slowed by interventions such as diet. For example, diets rich in specific lipids, such as monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) in the Mediterranean diet, correlate with longevity in humans. Specific MUFAs also causally extend lifespan in the nematode worm C. elegans. Our goal is to decipher how specific lipids drive longevity with a focus on the cellular organelles regulating these processes.

Our goal is to create an inclusive and diverse environment that fosters a supportive and dynamic research environment focused on studying the role of lipids in aging and longevity.
